Mari does not want to restrict forms of expression in art or design too sharply. Limiting her own expression feels distressing and confines her creativity. For her, textile art is one of many ways of self-expression. She has also combined textiles with paints, being fascinated by surfaces, shapes and three-dimensionality. In her works, she has worked with the stiffening and deformation of soft textiles, while the community art works created in collaboration with Minna Impiö combine traditional crocheting techniques with large and sculptural forms.
